In the second One Day International (ODI) against South Africa, Nandre Burger dismantled Pakistan’s top order early on, taking four wickets and putting the hosts under immense pressure.
Burger struck quickly, claiming three wickets in a short span and reducing Pakistan to 22 for 3. Fakhar Zaman was caught by Quinton de Kock off Burger’s third ball. Shortly after, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan fell in his third over, leaving Pakistan struggling.
Despite the shaky start, Salman Agha and Saim Ayub steadied the innings with an important partnership. After losing three wickets for just 37 runs, the pair put on 92 runs for the fourth wicket.
This stand helped Pakistan recover some stability before Ayub was dismissed by Bosch.
The middle order faltered again as Hussain Talat and Shaheen Afridi fell cheaply. However, Mohammad Nawaz and Faheem Ashraf added late momentum to the innings. Nawaz scored a brisk 59 runs.
Naseem Shah took 22 runs off the final over bowled by Peter, pushing Pakistan’s score to a competitive 269 for 9.
Burger finished with impressive bowling figures of 4 wickets for 46 runs from his 10 overs, including his fourth wicket in the 47th over when he dismissed Faheem Ashraf.
Summary: Nandre Burger’s early breakthroughs put Pakistan on the back foot, but a resilient partnership and late hitting helped Pakistan post a competitive total of 269/9.
