In October, Paden saw online that Starbucks was launching new holiday drinks and desserts, including a holiday bear cup wearing a green beanie and straw. For a month, he and his partner planned to get the cup on its release day, November 6th, expecting it to be easy to walk into the store around noon and buy one.
They soon noticed others had the same plan. The cups went viral on social media, with many people excited about the bear design.
As the release approached, they decided to check how many cups their local Starbucks would have to gauge competition. On the evening of November 5th, they visited five local Starbucks stores and stopped at the busiest one to ask the barista, who said they had seven cups in stock.
"Seven," the barista told them when asked about the stock.
