Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux has announced his resignation from the House of Commons, concluding his tenure as the representative for Edmonton–Riverbend. The news was shared Thursday in a letter posted on social media, following public speculation about his political future. His decision comes shortly after another Conservative MP drew attention by changing party affiliation.
“I ran in the last election hopeful that Canadians would put their faith in a team led by Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives,” wrote Jeneroux. “Although the outcome was not what I anticipated, I have great admiration for the many remarkable individuals who were elected to the House of Commons on both sides of the aisle.”
Jeneroux emphasized that his immediate priority is to dedicate time to his family and personal responsibilities. However, his letter did not include an exact resignation date.
“For now, my focus must turn entirely to my family and to the responsibilities that come with that.”
In response, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre expressed support and appreciation for Jeneroux’s service, hinting that he may continue in his role through the early part of 2026.
“On behalf of our Conservative team, I wish you and your family all the best following your decision to step down as MP next spring,” posted Poilievre.
Matt Jeneroux has represented Edmonton–Riverbend since 2015 and has held several key shadow cabinet positions in areas such as health, housing, and infrastructure.
Matt Jeneroux steps down as MP for Edmonton–Riverbend, citing family focus, with Pierre Poilievre confirming his departure is expected in 2026.
