Elder Gérald Caussé Called to Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

SALT LAKE CITY — Elder Gérald Caussé, originally from France and the former Presiding Bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was sustained and ordained as the newest member of the Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on Thursday. He was ordained by President Dallin H. Oaks along with other members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

Role and Responsibilities

The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles is the second-highest governing body in the Church. Its members serve as special witnesses of Jesus Christ and manage the Church’s worldwide administrative functions.

“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ,” Elder Caussé said. “And I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ.”

Elder Caussé served as a General Authority Seventy from 2008 to 2012 and as a member of the Presiding Bishopric beginning in 2012. He has been known for his emphasis on caring for others and supporting the youth of the Church throughout his ministry.
