Erika Kirk, widow of the late US conservative activist and Israel supporter Charlie Kirk, will accept an award on his behalf at the Christian Media Summit in Jerusalem this week, according to the Government Press Office (GPO).
Israel is hosting more than 100 key Christian leaders for the four-day summit. The event includes an award ceremony recognizing individuals for their “exceptional contribution” to Israeli public diplomacy worldwide. The GPO is organizing the summit together with the Foreign Ministry and the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.
Four months before his assassination during a college campus event in the US in September, Charlie Kirk wrote to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In his letter, Kirk criticized Israel's current social media strategies, suggested improvements to public diplomacy, and offered to discuss these ideas directly with the Prime Minister.
The summit occurs amid ongoing debates within US conservative circles about antisemitism and anti-Israel sentiments, highlighting the importance of strengthening Israel's image internationally.
“Over 100 representatives of leading Christian media outlets, opinion leaders, religious figures, and heads of organizations from various countries” are expected to attend.
The summit aims “to deepen understanding of Israeli society, confront the phenomenon of antisemitism on social networks, and present Israel as an innovative, diverse, and open nation.”
Author's summary: Erika Kirk will accept a posthumous award for Charlie Kirk at a Jerusalem summit celebrating Christian support for Israel and addressing public diplomacy and antisemitism issues.
