Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has defended using a white Ford Bronco while campaigning for New York City mayor, stating the vehicle has no connection to the late O.J. Simpson.
On the eve of the NYC mayoral election, Cuomo posted a video on Instagram describing the car as his "Good luck truck" after social media expressed surprise at his choice of vehicle.
The race has gained national attention, with Cuomo running as an independent candidate against Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa.
The white Ford Bronco became infamous in June 1994 when former football star O.J. Simpson led police on a two-hour chase in Southern California after being charged with the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. Simpson was later acquitted in a widely publicized trial and died at age 76 in 2024 due to cancer.
Politico reporter Jeff Coltin wrote on X: "After a brief speech and some handshakes and selfies, Cuomo ignored my questions and got in the white Ford Bronco to be driven to the next stop in Washington Heights."
Author’s summary: Andrew Cuomo has explained his use of a white Ford Bronco during his NYC mayoral campaign, emphasizing no relation to O.J. Simpson despite the vehicle's notorious history.
