With about 76% of the votes counted countywide, the Nassau County Legislature is expected to remain under Republican control. The anticipated composition is 11 Republicans and 8 Democrats.
Before the recent election, the Legislature had an 11-7 Republican majority. One seat remains vacant after former District 15 legislator John Ferretti resigned to become Hempstead town supervisor. Previously, the split was 12-7 in favor of Republicans.
Following Tuesday’s election, Democrats gained one seat by flipping District 14. The Legislature is made up of 19 legislators, each representing one of Nassau County's 19 districts.
