Civil engineering giant Jacobs announced it is proud to collaborate on the Neom port project Oxagon, despite controversies concerning human rights issues in the region.
Jacobs has been appointed to provide technical and environmental advisory services to DataVolt as part of a broader $5bn (£3.8bn) contract. The aim is to support delivery of a fully sustainable, net-zero data centre ecosystem.
DataVolt is responsible for developing an artificial intelligence (AI) factory campus located in Oxagon, Neom’s advanced industrial city.
Oxagon is a key component of the larger Neom megaproject, envisioned to become an advanced manufacturing hub and port. Its strategic location offers access to the Suez Canal and the Mediterranean to the north, and the Red Sea to the south, facilitating exports to Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Jacobs stated the campus will be powered entirely by renewable energy. It will incorporate advanced cooling technologies and energy-efficient designs to minimize environmental impact.
“Designed to operate at net zero, the facility will help meet rising global demand for AI data processing while minimizing carbon emissions.”
Jacobs’ involvement aims to balance technological advancement with strong environmental responsibility, aligning with global sustainability goals.
