Boxing champion Claressa Shields has openly questioned Jake Paul’s reasoning for canceling his scheduled fight against Gervonta Davis. She argues that Paul’s explanation overlooks longstanding controversies surrounding Davis.
The anticipated match between Paul and Davis was slated for November 14 in Miami, generating significant buzz before its abrupt cancellation. The fight was dropped following fresh accusations against Davis, which claimed he assaulted a woman at Tootsie’s Cabaret, a strip club in Miami Gardens.
Paul condemned Davis as “a walking human piece of garbage” and said he didn’t want to “give a woman abuser a platform.”
According to a complaint filed with Miami-Dade County, Davis allegedly choked and struck a VIP cocktail waitress during an incident on October 27. Paul’s immediate moral stance sparked both praise and skepticism across the boxing world.
Many observers pointed out that Davis’ history with law enforcement has been publicly known for years. Shields highlighted this fact on X Spaces, implying Paul’s sudden moral outrage seemed inconsistent with his awareness of Davis’ past conduct.
“I have a few things to say about that,” Shields said, emphasizing her disbelief in Paul’s new moral awakening.
