Calgary’s top law enforcement officer, Katie McLellan, emphasizes a tough stance on crime and social disorder in the city’s downtown.
To address these issues, 100 police officers are deployed in the East Village as part of an initiative called Operation Order. Their focus is on high-crime areas where a visible police presence reassures law-abiding citizens.
These officers frequently confront criminals and also encounter vulnerable individuals in need of assistance as they patrol key locations daily.
Katie McLellan: "These are the words I use to explain why this city must get serious about crime and social disorder."
The visible presence of officers in these troubled areas has been welcomed by many law-abiding citizens who desire safer public spaces.
