On November 27, Tashkent hosted the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor (TCTC) and Connectivity Investors Forum. The event gathered representatives from the European Union, Central Asian governments, financial institutions, and private sector investors to discuss transport and logistics development in the region.
The forum aimed to enhance cooperation and improve infrastructure connectivity across Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. These improvements are part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor, connecting Central Asia with Europe through the Caspian Sea.
According to forum participants, the European Union expressed its support for improving regional transportation and supply chain systems. EU officials emphasized the importance of sustainable logistics and energy-efficient transport routes that promote economic integration between Europe and Central Asia.
“Connectivity is at the heart of our Global Gateway strategy, which promotes smart, clean, and secure links across continents,” stated an EU representative.
The Global Gateway initiative provides financial and technical backing to infrastructure projects that align with environmental and digital standards. In Central Asia, this includes modernizing railway systems, border facilities, and digital trade platforms.
Central Asian countries reaffirmed their commitment to expanding transnational infrastructure, improving customs harmonization, and promoting multimodal transport systems. Cross-border cooperation, particularly between Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan, was highlighted as a key factor for unlocking regional trade potential.
The corridor serves as a strategic alternative route linking China and Europe, bypassing congested or politically sensitive transport paths. It also increases the region’s role as a transit hub for goods and energy resources.
Investors and experts stressed the need for sustainable logistics, digital management systems, and efficient customs procedures. These measures aim to reduce transport costs and transit times while supporting environmental goals and green energy logistics.
The Tashkent forum marked a significant step toward transforming Central Asia into a reliable bridge between Europe and Asia. The EU’s involvement underlines its strategic interest in the region’s long-term connectivity and stability.
“Together, we can turn Central Asia into one of the most interconnected and resilient transport hubs of the future,” concluded the forum’s closing statement.
