Nine Entertainment has started cutting about 50 jobs within its Streaming and Broadcast division as part of a significant restructure aimed at reducing costs. The layoffs mainly affect senior on-air and production staff across multiple markets.
"I reckon the biggest story in Adelaide right now is the way poor old Kate Collins has been treated by Channel 9," said FIVEAA’s David Penberthy on air. "It’s a classic example of the head office in Sydney treating us like you-know-what and as a result there’s one fewer South Aussie on our TV screens."
Penberthy criticized how the cuts were handled but acknowledged the financial pressures on television in 2025.
This first wave of redundancies marks the beginning of a major change for Nine Entertainment’s streaming and broadcast operations amid industry cost challenges.
