Avalon Plans Major Upgrades Ahead of International Relaunch
Avalon Airport has announced a series of major improvements in preparation for the relaunch of international Jetstar services in 2026. The works include additional seating, enhanced infrastructure, and expanded transport connections designed to boost capacity and convenience.
Infrastructure Expansion
- 1,000 new seats across both domestic and international terminals
- Upgraded runway lighting systems
- Enhanced security screening equipment and CCTV
- New water connections for the control tower
- Additional 500 parking spaces
These developments follow the recent opening of an enlarged freight facility and coincide with the upcoming launch of Jetstar flights to Bali in March 2026.
Growth and Employment Impact
“This infrastructure will set the foundation for even more flights in regional Victoria for years to come,” said Victoria’s Minister for Regional Development Jaclyn Symes.
The airport projects are expected to generate around 80 new jobs, contributing to both local employment and the broader regional tourism economy.
Improved Public Transport Access
A new Route 18 bus service will operate daily, linking Avalon Airport with Lara Station on the Geelong line. This initiative will provide more convenient travel options for passengers and staff.
“The new bus route will deliver better public transport options for Avalon and ensure improved access for thousands of workers and passengers every day,” said Victoria’s Minister for Public Transport Gabrielle Williams.
