At the Celosphere 2025 conference in Munich, Celonis addressed the current state of AI in enterprises, acknowledging the deflation of the AI hype cycle. The process intelligence vendor emphasized that the key to AI success is operational context rather than developing more models.
Most enterprise software companies continue to promote AI as a cure-all solution. However, Celonis took a more pragmatic stance, highlighting that enterprise AI is largely failing. Alex Rinke, Celonis Co-CEO, referenced an IDC statistic revealing that only 11% of companies currently realize measurable benefits from AI initiatives.
Instead of ignoring this challenge, Rinke framed it as proof that process intelligence fills a critical gap for AI in the corporate environment. By integrating operational context, AI can become truly effective at driving enterprise outcomes.
"I remember being on a Christmas vacation in 2022, and ChatGPT had just come out. I wasn't just terrorizing my family - I was also terrorizing everybody at Celonis. I was texting people like, 'This is going to change everything.' And I still believe it will and is starting to - but we've also all learned that it's harder than we thought."
The conference highlighted the importance of grounding AI expectations in practical realities and leveraging process intelligence to unlock AI's enterprise potential.
Celonis stresses that embedding AI within operational processes, not just applying new models, is essential for enterprises to achieve meaningful AI benefits.
