David Lammy forgets Remembrance symbol as he fills in for Starmer

While standing in for Keir Starmer during Prime Minister’s Questions, Justice Secretary and Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy began with a solemn tribute to those who fought to defend freedom. However, he soon drew attention for not wearing a Remembrance poppy, which most MPs had pinned to their jackets.

About fifteen minutes into the session, Cabinet colleague Bridget Phillipson handed Lammy a poppy pin, easing the awkward moment ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

"I bought a new suit this morning because my Godmother said she would be watching," Lammy told the Commons. He added he was "very grateful" to Ms Phillipson "for ensuring that despite wearing a new suit I have managed to put my poppy on".

Conservative Party chairman Kevin Hollinrake criticised the oversight, calling it "a disgrace" that Lammy appeared at Prime Minister’s Questions without the symbolic poppy.
